Sorghum

Sorghum

Giant Sorghum ~ Provides a tall dense cover some 5 - 6 feet tall with good resistance to lodging. Best used as a flushing point or dirlled as a windbreak to protect other cover crops. Offers no feed value to game birds. Sow in the spring after the risk of frost has passed. Do not drill early as requires soil temperatures to be in the region of 14C (Higher than maize).

Dwarf Sorghum ~ Sometimes referred to as “Milo” in other parts of the world. Dwarf Sorghum is shorter and stiffer stemmed than Giant Sorghum. Reaching a height of 3 - 4 feet with large leaves producing a leafier cover at ground level. Very good standing power provides a good warm holding area for birds.

Atrazine Tolerance                                                         Sorghums in trials have been shown to offer some tolerance to Atrazine. Care should be taken when using full rate applications and advice should be sort from your agronomist or chemical supplier.

Sowing rate: Giant ~ approx 12kg/acre                                                              Dwarf ~ approx  8kg/acre

Sowing dates April ~ May         Sowing depth 1 ~ 2 inches    Row width 70cm                         Produces cover July ~ February
